DownTo1 Purifiers narrows a crowded shelf down to one machine. You answer five short questions about your home, and a scoring engine ranks a curated catalogue against your answers — room by room, litre by litre — and shows you what won, what came close, and why. It is a buying guide, not a shop: nothing is sold here and no account is created. 本站是独立的净化器选购指南,不销售商品,也不需要注册。

Two finders, because they are two different decisions

Air and water purifiers get sold side by side and share almost nothing. An air purifier is judged on how fast it moves clean air through a volume you can measure; a water purifier is judged on what is dissolved in a supply you cannot see. The questions that separate a good choice from an expensive one have no overlap, so there are two quizzes, two question sets and two scoring models rather than one blurred "purifier" wizard.

What actually decides an air purifier

The axis that matters most is room size against CADR — clean air delivery rate, in m³/h. A purifier's headline coverage figure assumes it runs flat out, which is the one setting nobody uses in a bedroom at night. So the useful question is not "does it cover my room" but "does it cover my room with enough margin that I can run it slowly". A unit sized generously for a 12 m² bedroom is quiet; the same unit is merely loud and inadequate in a 30 m² living room.

Around that sit three modifiers. Noise at the lowest setting decides whether a bedroom machine gets switched on at all. Formaldehyde and VOC removal matters in newly renovated or newly furnished homes and is close to irrelevant elsewhere — it is a genuinely different filter, not a marketing tier. And filter running cost compounds: HEPA and carbon filters are consumables, and a cheap machine on expensive proprietary filters overtakes a dearer one within two or three replacements.

What actually decides a water purifier

Here the deciding axis is RO versus UV, read against your water's TDS — total dissolved solids. Reverse osmosis strips dissolved salts and is what hard borewell or high-TDS municipal supply needs; UV and UF only kill or filter out what is biological, and leave dissolved salts exactly where they were. Fitting UV to high-TDS water gives you safe water that still tastes of the ground it came from. The mistake in the other direction costs more: putting RO on already-soft, low-TDS supply strips minerals that did not need removing and wastes several litres for every litre it delivers.

Then the running cost, which is where water purifiers differ most from air. Membranes and cartridges have service lives measured in months, and the annual bill for them is frequently a meaningful fraction of the purchase price. Storage capacity matters wherever supply or power is intermittent — a tank is the difference between a purifier and an ornament during a cut — and instant hot water and remineralisation are preferences rather than requirements. The finder treats them that way.

Independence

No brand pays for placement here. There is no sponsored tier, no paid review, no arrangement under which a manufacturer can influence a ranking. The point is structural rather than a promise: the scoring engine cannot see the commerce layer at all. Ranking runs entirely on specification data and your answers, and the outbound retailer link is attached afterwards, to whichever product already won. There is no code path by which a link could raise a score, because the ranker never reads one.

What is in the catalogue

Twenty-five models — air and water together — chosen because they are actually purchasable in the two markets this site covers: India, priced in INR, and China, priced in CNY. Not every model is sold in both, and the catalogue does not pretend otherwise: switch market and the shortlist changes with it. The aim is deliberately not a complete database. A finder that returns one answer needs a catalogue small enough to have been read end to end.

Two caveats, stated plainly. Prices are indicative — they move constantly, vary by retailer and festival season, and are here to place a model in a band, not to quote you. Specifications are the manufacturer's, as published; we have not independently tested CADR or membrane life in a laboratory. Confirm both on the retailer's page before you buy, and if something here looks wrong, please tell us — corrections are the most useful mail we get.

How this is paid for

Some outbound links to retailers are affiliate links, which may earn us a small commission if you buy — at no extra cost to you, and with no effect whatsoever on the ranking, as above. That is the whole business model: there is no advertising, no newsletter, no data to sell, and nothing gated. See the privacy policy for who operates this site, what is measured, and what happens when you click an outbound link.
